Student Protests Planned
2024-02-11

Student organizations have announced plans for campus-wide protests against the proposed budget cuts. The protests are scheduled for February 18th, starting at 11 AM at the Blandijnberg.

The Student Council, in collaboration with various student associations, has organized this demonstration to voice their concerns about the potential impact of the budget cuts on the quality of education and student services.

Key points of concern for the students include:

1. Potential reduction in course offerings and specialization options 2. Increased class sizes due to staff reductions 3. Cuts to student support services, including mental health resources 4. Potential increases in tuition fees to offset budget shortfalls 5. Reduced funding for student organizations and activities

The protest will begin with speeches from student leaders and representatives from various faculties. Following this, there will be a march through the campus, ending at the Rector's office where a petition will be delivered.

Students are encouraged to participate peacefully and to bring signs expressing their concerns. The organizers have emphasized the importance of maintaining a respectful and non-violent atmosphere throughout the demonstration.

Faculty and staff who support the students' concerns are welcome to join the protest. However, they are reminded to do so in their personal capacity and not as official representatives of the university.

The university administration has been notified of the planned protest and has committed to ensuring the safety of all participants while respecting their right to peaceful demonstration.
